Speak Your Way To Victory!

When men are cast down, then thou shalt say, There is lifting up; and he shall save the humble person. Job 22:29

In 1994, certain psychologists at the University of Denver conducted a research on newlywed couples to ascertain factors that strained marital relationships. Their discovery was unsettling. The experiment, spanning the first decade of a marriage, discovered that couples whose marriages would eventually disintegrate spent ten out of every hundred comments insulting their partner. Furthermore, with every new decade, the frequency magnified, until the couples head downhill to the point where half of their conversations are outright putdowns.

Indeed there is a preponderance of evidence, both in science and psychology, that give credence to the importance of words in shaping our reality. According to scientists Andrew Newberg and Mark Robert Waldman, “a single word has the power to influence the expression of genes that regulate physical and emotional stress.” Renowned motivational speaker, Zig Ziglar said: “You never know when a moment and a few sincere words can have an impact on a life.”

All these are simply to say that words have meaning; they carry power. And this is particularly so for the believer. Think about it. Right from creation, it was God’s Word, spoken over the turbulent universe that placed the waters into boundaries and suspended the stars in the galaxy. It is also by words that you and I have been called into the fold of the beloved, believing first with our hearts, and then confessing with our mouths unto salvation. The truth is, the life we have been called to live is a life defined by words.

In our opening scripture, we see Job, a man at the throes of persecution; he was afflicted with loss, pain and sickness. Yet, the words of this verse are emphatic: “When men are cast down, then thou shalt say, There is lifting up….” Inevitably, what you say with your mouth determines where you overcome or are overcome.

The teacher, in the book of Proverbs, makes a poignant statement: “You are snared by the Words of your mouth” [Proverbs 6:2]. In the same vein, Jesus Himself, teaching us the principles of faith, said: “If you say to this mountain, be moved and cast into the sea, and you believe, you will have what you say” [Matthew 11:23]. It therefore goes to say that your words are a product of your conviction, and your conviction creates your reality. So the question is: In the midst of your situation, what are you saying?

We are in an era where everything is constantly speaking-from the debilitating news carried by the media, to personal situations such as debt, health crisis, relationship conflicts and more. So you must choose how to respond. You must choose your words wisely. Do not speak death to your spouse. Do not speak fear to your situations. Speak life. Speak turnaround. Speak the Word. This is your season of dominion and influence. God is giving you victory in every place you have been a victim. Everything you have waited to accomplish will be made manifest. It is time to go higher. It is time for your testimony.
